Healing Haven

Energy, Time and Space to Heal.
Categories : Craniosacral

I have been a Registered Massage Therapist in Alberta since 1995 and I was an instructor in the massage program at Grant MacEwan University for 14 years.  I’ve studied many modalities since completing my 2200-hour education and, subsequently, I’ve blended my mainstream medical massage knowledge with many holistic practices.  My focus is pelvic and sexual health and wellness.

The pelvic bowl is the epicenter of our power and life force and it’s imperative for us to step into a healthier relationship with our pelvis if we want to restore our physical and sexuality vitality.

I am passionate to share my workshops that help women to reclaim their power and sexual radiance.  Reclaiming Feminine Consciousness and   Rekindling the Black Pearl.  I’m so grateful to be facilitating these workshops and witnessing the powerful transformations as women heal their pain, claim their power and sexual radiance.

(Click here to listen to my interview on the Going Shamanic podcast about reconnecting with the Sacred Feminine.)

I have a wide scope of practice and more than 20 years working experience allows me to provide individualized beneficial care that suits your needs and works for YOU. My Manual Therapy techniques include but not limited to:

Craniosacral

This gentle hands-on modality assesses and treats restrictions in the craniosacral system (membranes and cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord) by using the pressure of the weight of a nickel. It can be done over top of clothing to correction restrictions and restore health.

Lymph drainage/lympho-fascial release

Stimulates immunity, vitality, decreases congestion, pain and speed recovery from injury or surgery. It’s a fantastic treatment to do within 48 hours of surgery to aid the recovery process. It re-hydrates tissue, release body tissues of toxins and pathogens, bacteria, viruses, abnormal cells, and delivers hydration, nutrients, hormones, and enzymes.

Swedish massage

This is the most commonly used form of massage that utilizes the kneading, stretching, stroking, flowing massage strokes of varying pressure to release muscle tension.

Myofascial unwinding

Trauma can be stored (physically or emotionally) in our connective tissue network and it’s experienced as less flexibility, tight sore muscles achy joints. Unwinding the tissue memory and applying sustained gentle pressure releases the tension and restore mobility.

Hydrotherapy

The basic use of water in any of its three states (solid, liquid or gas) to improve health. Cold or cool therapy may be used to decrease inflammation, heat can be used to soften the tissues prior to manual therapy. Often hydrotherapy becomes a homecare recommendation.

Visceral mobilization

Viscera means internal organs. Through very gentle subtle palpation and treatment the tension and misalignment of organs and their ligaments can be very gently encouraged to release tension and return to their optimal location within the abdomen.

Holistic Pelvic Care™

Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a  practice that utilizes internal vaginal myofascial release, trigger point therapy, visualization, breathing and
energy work and was developed by Tami Lynn Kent, MS physical Therapy to release restricted connective tissue, restore organ alignment and improve
the overall health within a woman's pelvic bowl.  Many women hold chronic pelvic tension, emotional stress, postural and energetic imbalances
in their wombs and pelvic bowl. This technique can assist with:

  • Re-establishing strength in muscles

  • Childbirth recovery

  • Recovery after pregnancy loss

  • Fertility support, pre-conception wellness, birth and post-partum healing

  • Menstrual and pelvic Pain

  • Prolapse and incontinence

  • Improve sensation

  • Chronic low back pain

  • Chronic pelvic floor tension and reduce pelvic congestion

  • Facilitate pelvic connection and proprioception

  • Post-surgical and trauma recovery

  • Painful intercourse

  • Expand self-expression, creativity and reconnect to feminine beauty and power

A verbal interview will be followed by the physical assessment of the tissues where the palpation determines the location of pelvic tension and the active engagement of the pelvic muscles with a contraction or “kegel”. A treatment may include any combination of intervaginal myofascial release, trigger point therapy, breath work, energy work and visualization.Women of all ages benefit from HPC™ whether it’s part of healing a specific condition, pre-conception wellness or the journey into menopause and long vaginal health. Many woman report feeling relaxed, grounded, decreased symptoms, increased pelvic strength and have a renewed sense of internal awareness and creativity.

Counselling is often recommended in combination of HPC treatments to address full spectrum healing when dealing with the challenges of sexual abuse, sexual trauma, fertility challenges or cancer recovery and support.

CranioSacral Therapy

This gentle hands-on body work technique approaches the unique wholeness of each person, identifying and facilitating correction to areas of misalignment, restriction or blockage in the physical and/or emotional body that are interfering with the body's natural ability. This gentle hands-on modality assesses and treats restrictions in the craniosacral system (membranes and cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord).

Craniosacral therapy enhances the physiological function of this system and the nervous system using no more than 5 grams of pressure.

The body's innate wisdom to heal itself is engaged with CST increasing decreasing pain and dysfunction while improving resistance to dis-ease.

Lymphatic Drainage

Our lymphatic system doesn't have a pump the way our cardiovascular system has the heart.  It depends on contraction of skeletal muscles, the rhythm of our breathing to propel lymphatic fluid around our bodies.

Lymph drainage is a gentle therapy that creates wave like movements in the lymphatic fluid propelling it towards the lymph nodes, deeper lymphatic vessel and ultimately returning back to the cardiovascular system.
The treatment helps to clear the bodies tissues of natural waste products, and pathogens, while delivering hydration, nutrients, hormones, bacteria, viruses, abnormal cells and enzymes.

It improves immunity, vitality, decreases congestion, pain, speeds recovery from injury or surgery.

Myofascial Release

'Myo' refers to muscle and fascia is the body's connective tissue.  Fascia wraps around every muscle, bone and organ.

When trauma (physical or emotional) is experienced we hold that tension in our fascial system which becomes less pliable, tight, holds toxins, memories and often becomes painful.

Restoring health to these tissues involves applying gentle sustained pressure to the myofascial restrictions resulting in improved flexibility, posture and fluid movement, while decreasing inflammation and pain.

Scar Tissue Release

Scar tissue is the body’s natural response to injury, but it can have negative physiological effects, such as: pain, lack of mobility, decreased blood and lymph flow, numbness, postural misalignment, nerve impingement, and muscle wasting.

The impact of scar tissue is often overlooked or down played for it's far reaching effects on the body's ability to function optimally.

Individual treatment protocols can be determined from evaluating a number of factors including when the injury occurred, the severity, pathologies, radiation therapy and location.

Some methods used to release scar tissue and adhesions are: lymphatic drainage, lymphofascial release, myofascial release, transverse friction, stretching, hot and cold hydrotherapy, and castor oil packs.

Visceral Mobilization

Viscera means internal organs. Each organ is held in place with visceral ligaments and all of the organs have a natural rhythm of movement. Balance and optimal function of our abdominal, pelvic and chest organs is dependent upon this synchrony.

Dysfunction is experienced when there is tautness present in the connective tissue around the organs. In practical terms it may present as local pain, digestive issues, menstrual pain, breathing issues or decreased range of motion.

VM applies subtle "listening" techniques, precise palpation skills and gentle treatment to decrease pain, increase mobility and improve digestion.

Relevance of Lymphatic Breast Care

Breasts have many meanings in our lives. They are symbolic of our femininity, our sexuality, and our ability to nurture children.

This symbolism, and the experiences and sensitivities that result from it can cause us to overlook the fact that our breasts are body tissues with ordinary tissue needs. We can be uncomfortable seeing to these needs, or uncertain how to go about doing so. Society around us often helps reinforce ambivalent feelings about our breasts and breast care.

Yet most women at some time experience symptoms like congestion and tenderness in our breasts. Many of us have had breast trauma or medical procedures for cosmetic, diagnostic, or treatment purposes. Life cycle changes are associated with a variety of breast discomforts.   Lymphatic breast care is a gentle and effective way to promote breast health and help relieve breast tissue symptoms.

We are all concerned about monitoring for breast tissue changes. The lymphatic breast care practitioner is also a skilled palpator who can support the routines of medical breast monitoring.
